9th September 2016
Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome to Year Two! We hope you had a lovely summer break. We have both been looking forward to joining the school and teaching in Year Two very much and are happy to say that the children have settled quickly into the daily routine. We have all had a great start to the new school year!
We hope that you will find the following information useful:
– Mrs Smith will be teaching from Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Day from Wednesday to Friday.
– Mrs Anderson (Year 2 Teaching Assistant) will be with us everyday.
Please click on the following link Autumn Term Year 2 Curruculum Overview for a curriculum overview for this term, outlining the areas covered in each subject.
In Year Two, the children will have the opportunity to change their reading books up to twice a week – on Mondays and Thursdays. For children who are already selecting longer books with more challenging texts, it may not be necessary to change their books on such a regular basis. Please aim to read with/to your child each day for a short time and record this, along with any comments, in your child’s reading record. In addition, do give your child plenty of opportunities to read to you in different contexts (eg newspapers, shopping, recipes, television, road signs etc) .
Spellings, based on Read Write Inc work, will be given out every Friday and tested the following Friday.
PE lessons will take place every Monday and Wednesday afternoon. However, it is advisable to keep kits in school in case of non-timetabled sessions. We aim to go outside as much as possible so children will need their trainers. Long hair will need to be tied back and earrings removed. For girls, please provide socks to keep in their PE bags for days when they come into school wearing tights. Please make sure all kit and uniform is named. Thank you.
This term the children will continue with weekly ‘Show and Tell’. We will send a list home to let you know when it will be your child’s turn. However, we also encourage children to bring any work that they have done at home relating to our topics to share with the class.
If the weather remains warm, please ensure your child has a sun hat and that sun cream is applied before school. Throughout the year, we encourage children to bring in a water bottle which should be taken home each evening.
Although mornings are always a very busy time in the classroom, please feel free to pop in and see us before or after school with any questions, concerns or messages. If there is anything that you would like to talk about in more detail, then please arrange a time with us or at the office.
Finally, we value parent helpers very much, so please pass on your name to either us or at the office if you would like to help in class with either maths cards and/or reading.
We look forward to a busy and exciting year ahead.
Nina Smith, Sarah Day and Ursula Anderson
