Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and are feeling ready for 2016! We would just like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ again for all the cards and presents at the end of last term. You were very generous and they were much appreciated!
The children all had a fantastic first term: we looked at some of the people who help to keep us healthy and safe, studied Autumn, and performed our Nativity play, as well as making an excellent start in Read, Write Inc to learn our letter sounds, and progress with Maths. This term we hope to build on those successes with some more great topics.
We will start this week by looking at ‘Winter’. We will be going on a Winter walk and discussing the changes the season brings to the weather (usually!), as well as looking at how we and other animals adapt to colder temperatures. We will also be making some bird cakes and writing a wintry poem. We will follow this with a topic on Animals and their Habitats and finish the half term with a focus on Chinese New Year which this year falls on the 8th February.
In addition, we will continue with our daily sessions of Read, Write Inc. but will also be introducing weekly spelling tests to help the children with their blending and segmenting skills. Further details, along with spelling books will be sent home shortly in book bags.
Some weekly reminders:
- Reading books are changed on Mondays and Fridays.
- P.E. takes place on Mondays. Please ensure the children have kits in school on this day although it is helpful if they remain in school throughout the week in case we need to reschedule.
- Show & Tell takes place on Friday afternoons on a rota system. The dates for each biscuit group are as follows:
|8th Jan||15th Jan||22nd Jan||29th Jan||5th Feb||12th Feb|
|Bourbons||Cookies||Custard Creams||Digestives||Jammie Dodgers||Bourbons|
|26th Feb||4th Mar||11th Mar||18th Mar||25th Mar||1st Apr|
|Cookies||Custard Creams||Digestives||Jammie Dodgers||BANK HOL||EASTER HOLS|
Now that the children are settled, we will be looking for additional parent helpers to listen to children read, as well as any volunteers to help with the preparation of resources (printing, cutting, laminating etc) on Fridays. If you would be willing to help, please let us know and we will make arrangements.
We will be holding an open afternoon on Wednesday 10th February between 3.15 pm and 4 pm: please come into the classroom to see your child’s learning.
We are looking forward to a busy and productive term. As always, if you have any questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to contact us.
