Reception Chinese Restaurant!

Reception had a great week last week learning all about the customs and traditions of Chinese New Year, this year being the Year of the Rat. We watched some lion and dragon dancing (and made our very own Chinese dragon!), listened to the Zodiac Story, made lucky red envelopes (Hong Bao) that are traditionally filled with money or sweets, made some Chinese lanterns and even tried our hand at writing Chinese symbols. Hugo’s Auntie came in to teach us a song in Chinese (thank you so much!) and to finish it all off, we sampled Chinese food in our very own Chinese restaurant. Our taster menu included egg fried rice, plain chow mein, chicken balls, prawn crackers, vegetable spring rolls and crispy fried seaweed. Many of the children were trying some of these for the first time and were truly surprised by how much they liked it. The seaweed was a massive hit!

Thanks again for your donations without which this could not have taken place. We think you’ll agree from the happy faces below, it was a great success!
