Mrs Lockwood and Mr Bridle have arrived in India. Their week is an important landmark in the development of our global partnership with Bharathi Vidyalaya School in Chennai. They will be spending three days in the primary department and two days in the middle school, observing Literacy, Maths problem solving, art, dance, drama, science, mock parliament and debating sessions, music, sport and yoga. They will also be leading two whole school assemblies on the London Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee, and teaching pottery, poetry, and geography during their time in India.
The school are also engaged in a joint project focusing on Rivers. They will be presenting sessions on the history and geography of the River Thames whilst observing lessons based on Indian rivers and sustainability. Our partners will be visiting Skyswood in the autumn term and we will be looking to explore ways of developing the most purposeful links for the benefit of our pupils.
News from Mrs Lockwood on their arrival…
We arrived safely and after an hour’s sleep went to Barathi school to a magnificent welcome. The photo is of a traditional Indian dance, often known as the lamp dance. 1000 pupiles all sang to us and we were presented with flowers.
Our itinerary includes us observing and teaching some lessons. We will spend the first three days in Bharathi Vidyalaya with their primary school and the last two days with their secondary school. With 65 children in a class we have had to adapt the learning style slightly!
