Year 5 enjoyed a great day at the Houses of Parliament last Friday. The visit started with a tour of the Parliament building, where the children had a chance to go inside both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They also visited the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Hall and Victoria Tower Gardens for lunch by the Thames. We all learnt about the history of the building, its role in governing the country and its relationship with the monarchy. After the tour, the children participated in a workshop where they created a new law and debated it in their own House of Commons. Nathan acted as a particularly excellent speaker, controlling the members of the house; quite remarkably he even managed to keep Andrew under control, only having to warn him once! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day, making great contributions to discussions and asking intelligent questions throughout.
