Football Team share 6-a-Side Trophy!

Our Year 4 and 5 football team followed up their outstanding performances on Wednesday with an equally impressive display on Saturday morning (April 26th.) Skyswood went on to win the group and take part in a closely fought final with Killigrew.

After 2-0 victories in their opening two matches, against St Peters and Colney Heath, Skyswood then moved up a gear to defeat Bernards Heath by four goals to nil. In their fourth match, against Wheatfields, the team had slightly more possession and were unlucky to lose out by two goals to one, hitting the post and coming close to equalising on several occasions. This meant that Skyswood needed to win their final match against Cunningham Hill in order to secure a good chance of progressing through to the final. It was a nail-biting match and Skyswood scored the all-important winning goal with barely a minute left to play.

The final was a very even contest. Skyswood started brightly, kicking down the slope, but were unable to score. The Killigrew team fought strongly and the match entered extra time. Both defences were solid and the match finished 0-0, with the trophy shared. The team will now have to re-play against Killigrew early in the autumn term to decide which school goes forward to represent Hertfordshire in the County Competition next season.

A big congratulations to Max, Louis, Aaron, George, Jack (captain), Adam, Daniel and Chris. We are really proud of you!

We now look forward to our Year 6 Six-a-Side competitions next week. The Preliminary matches are at Skyswood on Wednesday 30th April (kick off 4.00 p.m.) Our Year 6 team will play three qualifying matches and hope to qualify for the competition finals on Saturday 3rd May.
