Our Year 5 (and under) football team have progressed through to the finals of the St Albans Primary Schools’ Annual Six-a-Side Tournament, to be held at Colney Heath School on Saturday 30th April. The team went through on goal difference after playing three matches in the Preliminary Round on Wednesday. The first match was an entertaining 1-1 draw with strong opposition from Garden Fields. George opened the scoring with a magnificent goal, but Garden Fields fought back well and, in the end, a draw seemed a fair result. Gabriel was outstanding in the Skyswood goal as the team then went on to defeat St Michaels by two goals to nil. In their final match, Skyswood dominated possession but lost out to an outstanding strike from a free kick, just two minutes from the end. Despite this defeat, the team went through with a stronger goal difference than Mandeville. They will play five group matches on Saturday, starting with a game against Park Street, and then playing Maple, Fleetville, Bernards Heath and Bowmansgreen. The final will then take place between the winners of each group. The tournament starts at 9.00 a.m. And the group stage will be over by about a quarter to twelve. Why not pop over to Colney Heath and support our team in what always turns out to be a really exciting competition!
