District Sports Success for Skyswood

Congratulations must go to our fabulous athletics squad for their excellent performance at the annual District Sports Athletics Championships at Westminster Lodge. The event is held across two afternoons. In the field events, our school put in a best ever performance (securing an impressive 41 points). This was due to Fiona and Theabelle winning the Girls High Jump and Girls Throw, along with Ben finishing second in the Boys High Jump and also making the final six of the Boys Long Jump, and Bradley throwing impressively to secure third place in the Boys Throw. With both of our relay teams also winning their heats by a significant margin, we were virtually neck and neck with St Adrians (42 points) after the field events. Maple were the only other school to score above 30 points on the day, so their was a clear margin between the top two schools and the rest of the field.

Despite performing admirably in the track events, with Michael winning the Year 5 100 metre sprint and several children reaching their finals, St Adrians were possibly the strongest opposition that any school has faced in the past ten years, so Skyswood had to settle for second placed overall. We were also second in the overall girls event, and in the overall boys event, and in two thrilling relay finals. Congratulations must go to the entire squad, and a big thank you to Mr Jones for coaching and organising this year’s team.
