Chess Success!

Congratulations to Skyswood’s first ever chess team, who competed in the first of three tournament sessions at Cunningham Hill Junior School last Friday. Their first match was against the Hindu school, Bhaktivedanta Manor, from Aldenham. Following some excellent matches, Skyswood won five and drew one. For their second match the team were drawn to play Cunningham Hill ‘B’. Once again, each player showed tremendous concentration and great strategy, with Skyswood again winning five of the six matches and drawing one. Well done to Andrew, Louis, Misha, JJ, Laurence and Samuel, a fantastic chess debut! The next round is on Friday 27th February (also at Cunningham Hill Juniors.) The team will then get the opportunity to face even tougher opposition and are likely to come up against more experienced school teams. However, the way that all six children performed on Friday shows the tremendous potential for the school chess team as we move forward into the future. All of the children are from our current Years 4 and 5, and were often paired up against Year 6 opponents. Our chess club also has several children from our current years 2 and 3, so this promises much for the future.
