From Pit to Porcelain Pottery Exhibition
Our Year 6 children would like to offer a warm invite to everybody in our school community for their Pottery exhibition in the school hall. Next Friday (11th July) between 5.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.
The exhibition; "From Pit to Porcelain" will feature a wide range of techniques that the children have built upon since their previous exhibition back in December. The "Pit" bit refers to pots that they've actually made and fired using clay dug out of the Skyswood school grounds. It would also include some fascinating experiments through a raku kiln and smoke firings. This includes 'naked raku'; where unglazed pots were fired in our raku kiln and then amazing patterns were achieved through adding horse hair, sugar, and feathers whilst the pots were still incredibly hot.
The children have also produced some wonderful 'totem pole' pots using slab techniques, some exquisite coil pots, trinket boxes, Henry Moore style sculptures, several slip cast pots with resin resist and Jackson Pollock style decoration techniques, and even some clay models based on the school bearded dragon, Simba!
We would love to celebrate this wonderful artwork with a wider audience, so why not pop along next Friday, even if it's just for fifteen minutes. The children will happily talk to you about the processes that they've used over the course of the year, there's no charge for entry and it's well worth a visit!
