Summer Fair Competitions

With just over a month to go until our Summer Fair (Saturday 18th June) we’d like to inform you of three exciting competitions. One of the competitions offers the chance to get creative with your modelling, one will celebrate all your fantastic family recipes from around the world, and one will provide the opportunity to use the power of your pen and write a Japanese syllabic poem.

Iconic buildings Around the World- Sculpture Competition

Create a sculpture of your favourite famous building from around the world. You can use any materials that you like… It could even be edible (eg in cake form!)

Recipe from Around the World

We will be holding a competition for children or families to produce a recipe from around the world. The recipe should then be laid out on a sheet of A3 paper to include ingredients, method, and a photograph of the dish that you have created. We will collate the entries into a Skyswood Around the World Recipe Book, and there will of course be lovely prizes for the winning entries.

Japanese Syllabic Poetry

Why not write a poem about our Summer Fair in the style of a Japanese syllabic poem. A haiku would be the simplest form (This is a three line poem with a simple 5-7-5 syllabic structure.) Or you could produce a                 Tanka (5-7-5-7-7), or a Choka (double-Haiku) 5-7-5-7-7  5-7-5-7-7. Or a Naga Uta (This takes the form of lines with alternating 5-7-5-7- syllables, as long as you wish, but finishes with two lines of seven syllables.
