Dear Parents,
We hope that you have all had a restful summer break. We have enjoyed meeting your children this week and look forward to getting to know you all over the coming academic year. We hope your children will have a happy and productive time in year 2. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to a fun and successful year ahead!
Curriculum
The Autumn Term for Year 2 is an exciting time as we begin a variety of enjoyable topics. In Literacy we will be reading and writing about stories in familiar settings. In addition to Literacy lessons, all children in Key Stage 1 will continue to participate in daily ‘Read, Write, Inc.’ scheme. ‘Read, Write, Inc.’ will enhance the children’s knowledge and understanding of phonics, enabling them to rapidly progress with their reading and writing.
In Maths, we will be focusing on counting, partitioning and calculating. In order for you to be able to support your child at home, we will be sending home maths challenge cards in the coming weeks.
Music
Year 2 will be looking at duration (exploring long and short sounds) this half term. Remember to bring your recorder and folder every Monday.
Routines
Reading books are changed on a Monday and should further books be needed, they will be changed as requested. We hope the children are reading aloud at home on a daily basis. Please ensure your child brings their book bag into school every day. P.E. lessons will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday and kits can stay in school during the week.
Educational Visits
To enhance and enrich the curriculum, we hope to take the children on visits and invite visitor workshops in to support learning. Further details will follow, however, these are approximate costs to which we give careful consideration and make informed decisions on school trips to ensure that the children gain maximum benefit from them.
