Year Four: Geography – Deforestation Debate

Thursday 18th May 2023

WALT: understand the impact deforestation can have both on the immediate environment and the wider world.

In our lesson today, we had a debate with the motion ‘we should stop the deforestation of our rainforests’. Not only did we have to research our own side to present a strong argument, but we also needed to research the opposing side to respond to the other team’s points.

This activity required us to:

  • Work effectively as a team
  • Gather evidence to support our points
  • Deliver our findings verbally to an audience
  • Listen and respond to opposing arguments

Here are some snippets of the debates – our opening and closing statements led by our team leaders. How fitting that it happened to be ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ too!
