Year Four: English – The Last Bear Story Maps

To kick-start our English unit based on Hannah Gold’s ‘The Last Bear’, we have been exploring how the author uses figurative language to create vivid imagery and give human-like features to objects. For our lesson today, we had some time in groups to build vocabulary banks of verbs to describe the behaviours of the wind, sea, fog, mountains and cold that would be found on Bear Island (where this special story is set). Then, we generated some sentences of our own before creating our final piece – a map of the island. Have a look at some of the masterpieces we created!
