Year Four: Deforestation Debate

For our Geography this term, Year Four have been looking at our ‘Living Planet’. In this topic, we have found out about the rainforests all over the world and what makes them so special. In one of our lessons we debated for and against the motion: ‘We should stop the deforestation of our rainforests’. The children were split into groups and told whether they were for or against and then they had to prepare a strong argument. Each group had time to research, write opening and closing statements as well as making sure they would be able to respond to a point offered by their opposition. They all did a brilliant job and should be very proud of how well prepared they were. Debates aren’t easy, especially when you don’t necessarily agree with the side you’re arguing, but Year Four handled it like pros!
