Dear Parents / Carers
I hope you had a lovely Easter holiday. As you are probably aware this is a particularly busy term in Year 6 but also a very enjoyable one.
SATs week commences on the 8th May and lasts for 4 days – a full time table is included below. The children have worked very hard across the curriculum and I am sure each individual will do themselves justice.
In preparation we will be having a practice SATS morning on the 25thth and 26th of April. The intention is less about the assessment and more about familiarising the children with what they will experience during the actual tests.
Leading up to this we will continue with the classroom routine much the same as normal. This will include swimming lessons which commence on Wednesday, 27th April for ten weeks (including SATs week). The children will walk to and from Sandringham School for this, with myself and Mrs Casson, but we are also asking for any parent volunteers who would be able to accompany us on the walk. If you would like to help, please contact the office for further details. Preparation for SATs is very important and the children will be revising key topics from across the curriculum. This will be supported by homework tasks in grammar, comprehension and mathematics.
One of the key changes to the curriculum in mathematics is the introduction of the arithmetic paper. On the whole the class has shown amazing progress in this area throughout the year, however, if your child does still have difficulty in any of the calculation methods, please take a little time to talk through any problems they are having.
Following SATS and before half term we will be embarking on our school journey to Snowdonia. Of course this is a very exciting time and a wonderful experience for the children – the perfect way to cement memories from their time at Skyswood. As you are probably aware this year we will be accompanied by Mrs Hinrichs, Mr Collenette, Mrs Storey and Miss Lockyer. Together we have established a packed itinerary, with many exciting activities, which I look forward to sharing with you on Tuesday 25th April at 7 pm.
This term will also see Years 5 & 6 perform at The Sandpit Theatre on the 13th and 14th July. The production ‘Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits’ is a wonderful opportunity for any budding actors to perform at a fantastic venue. Following the lead from previous years, curriculum disruption will be kept to a minimum with those enjoying major parts required to attend breakfast / afterschool rehearsals. Auditions will take place after half-term.
Whether it be the trip to Snowdonia, the school production, the trip to Legoland, the ‘Leavers Assembly’, Hoodies or the ‘Leavers Barbeque’ it is our intention to make your child’s final term at Skyswood as fantastic as possible and create memories that will last a lifetime. They are a wonderful class and it has been my absolute pleasure being their class teacher this year. I hope this term will be one to remember!
