Year 4 Summer Term

Dear Year 4 Parents/Carers,

We hope that you and your families all enjoyed a lovely Easter break and that the children are looking forward to a busy and fun Summer term with lots to look forward to! We have welcomed two new TAs – Mrs Kavanagh and Mrs Reynolds – to the Year 4 classroom which is also very exciting.

We have begun our new topic of the Mayans this week which we will continue until half term, and in the second half of the term we will move on to learn about the living planet. Both topics will include opportunities for teacher led learning and independent research with plenty of scope for both individual and collaborative activities. In science, we will begin with our unit on sound followed by our unit on living things and their habitats.

The children will have their weekly music lessons with Mrs Salway and French lessons with Mrs Cheshire on a Wednesday afternoon.   PE will now be on a Wednesday and Friday and children can come to school in their PE kits. Please ensure that children are wearing the appropriate kit in the school colours – details of this can be found on the school website. If children do not have the appropriate kit, they will not be able to join in with the lesson. We will be outside unless it is raining, so please ensure the children have a jumper in school in case it is a little chilly. We are hoping that swimming lessons may be able to take place again this term, however this has not yet been confirmed. If this is the case, Year 4 will be swimming after the May half term. I will keep you updated as necessary.

As the sun will hopefully be making a welcome appearance as the term progresses, please remember to send children in with a fresh water bottle as well as a hat so that we can take full advantage of outdoor learning opportunities. Children should come to school with suncream applied, especially if it looks like it is going to be a hot day.

Learning Log tasks will begin again throughout the Summer term with tasks given out on a Friday for return the following Wednesday. To keep Google Classrooms in use (and to save paper) I will be setting their home learning via Google, however children are to complete their learning in their yellow book, unless otherwise stated. I will not be checking Google Classroom over the weekends so if there are any problems completing the work, the children can speak to me on Monday in school as usual. Please encourage your child to record each reading session in their school diary as we’re running the ‘50 night read’ competition again this term and this way all reading at home can be included in their tally.

At the moment, we are still unable to welcome help from parents/grandparents at this time. If this changes then I’ll be in touch again!

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Miss McAlister, Mrs Kavanagh and Mrs Reynolds
