Welcome back to the Summer Term, we hope you all had a fantastic Spring break.
We have a busy time ahead of us with new topics to begin and below is a brief summary of what we will be covering over the coming weeks. We cannot quite believe that this is our final term with your children!
There will be a few different genres to learn in English, including Adventure stories and Persuasive letter writing. The children will also be vocabulary building when learning about Poetry and they will be given the opportunity to research a particular poet. All of the children will have the chance to recite their favourite poem to the rest of the class. Spellings will continue to be given out on a Monday and tested on Fridays.
During Maths we will continue to build on prior learning, developing skills in understanding number, calculating, shape, measuring and handling data. Mrs Loukes will be teaching the children for one of their lessons each week on a Thursday afternoon focusing on ‘Number Talks’ work, where the children use number relationships and the structures of numbers to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
In Science this term our units will be Plants and Light. Our Geography unit is Rivers and we hope to arrange a trip to Affinity Water in Bushey towards the end of term . We will also be learning to make Sandwich Snacks, with the children designing and making their own healthy sandwich by the end of the DT unit. During Art we will be learning about Art through plants.
In RE, we will continue to learn about Christianity and Islam, focusing on Rules and Special Places. RE will be taught this term by Mrs Nash. We will be swimming on a weekly basis as you are aware and the children will also be learning and practising their Striking and Fielding skills in PE. PE will now be on a Tuesday afternoon, however please ensure your children have appropriate PE kit and footwear in school at all times. For Music, Mrs Constantin will continue to work with the children every Thursday morning. The children will be covering a range of programs and skills in Computing during their Turtles and Games unit.
As always, if any issues should arise, either socially or academically, please do not hesitate to come in and see us. We are also keen to start preparing our Year 3 allotment bed in the Environmental area, any help with this or donations of seeds or plants would be very much appreciated.
Finally, our Year 3 Class Assembly is on Friday 5th May.
We look forward to another busy and exciting term and would like to thank you for your continued help and support.
Mrs Lewis and Mrs McVeigh.
