Year 2 Spring Term Letter

Dear Parents / Carers,

We hope you have had a relaxing and festive Christmas and are looking forward to the term ahead. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the generous gifts that you gave us before the holidays! The term ahead will be a thoroughly enjoyable one for all of us in Year 2. We have attached a brief summary of the topics we will be covering over the coming weeks:

spring curriculum overview

As a part of our work in English, we are going to create an Interactive Reading Display where children will have the opportunity to recommend books to each other. During Show & Tell, children may bring in a book and give their peers a brief synopsis/describe their favourite bit. If they would like to, they can create a front cover for the book which we will put on the display. We will also include photographs of the children reading in extreme places – previously we have had photos of them reading on an elephant, a shed roof and even in a hot tub, so be as imaginative as you can! This will be ongoing throughout the term and photos/books may be brought in at any time. There is no limit as to how many amazing places they wish to read in!

Library books will be changed every Monday (beginning 22nd January), so please encourage your children to return any completed books and exchange them for new ones. Reading books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday as before.

Further reminders:
• P.E. lessons will take place on a Monday and Thursday. However, it is advisable to retain kits in school in case of non-timetabled sessions. We will start going outside again once the weather warms up!

• Maths cards also need to be practised regularly at home and the children will be tested on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (volunteers permitting) as before.

• Spellings will continue to take place on a Friday.

Please feel free to come in and see us before or after school with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you all at our Open Evening on Wednesday 7th February. Thank you again for your continued support. We wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2018.

Yours sincerely,

Nina Smith & Lisa Spiller
