Year 5 at the Alban Arena

Our Year 5 class performed superbly, alongside several other local schools, at the Alban Arena Music Festival. The event, which is staged     annually , took the theme this year of ‘Around the World in 80 minutes.’ The concert opened with the St Albans Primary Schools’ Orchestra playing a piece from Carmen, and then teaming up with the choir to perform Finlandia.  The choir then performed two songs before having a short break (where we were entertained by the recorder ensemble performing a French medley.)  The choir then sprang back into     action with a Polish singing game and a          traditional German song, before their            outstanding rendition of Edelweiss (which was followed by a bit of ‘audience participation.’)

The children then enjoyed Atama, Kata, Hiza, Ashi  (heads, shoulders, knees and toes in Japanese!) Following this, they sang two traditional Canadian songs, including Land of the Silver Birch.  A colourful Indian lullaby was then followed by Belle Mama (which was naturally introduced by Bella!)

To finish the concert, the choir performed an amazing Musical Journey and then finished off with a rousing rendition of We are the Young.

The choir, of approximately two hundred and fifty children, certainly performed beautifully, as did the orchestra and recorder ensemble.

Twenty local schools are involved over three evening performances. Well done to our Year 5 children, you certainly did our school proud!
