The Summer Term in Year 2

Welcome back to the summer term in Year 2! We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready to start lots of new and exciting topics.

In Literacy, we will finish off our unit on ‘Traditional Tales’ and move on to looking at ‘Different Stories by the same Author’. Our chosen author will be Ronda Armitage with her wonderful collection of Lighthouse Keeper stories.

The seaside theme will continue in both Geography and History where we will explore physical and human features of the coastline, and look at how British holidays by the sea have changed over the past century.

In Art we will be focusing on ‘Corals’, and in D&T in the second half of the term, we will making model beach huts. This will introduce the children to skills involving cutting and joining wood. In the first couple of weeks however, we will be making junk vehicles, specifically looking at mechanisms for joining wheels and axles. This project will require lots of small boxes for constructing the bodies of the vehicles, so if you are able to supply any in the near future, this would be much appreciated.

Our ICT focus will be ‘Talking and Sharing’. This has been a popular topic in the past with opportunity for looking at simulations and blogs, and also for learning how to create and send e:mails within school.

In Science this term, we will be looking at ‘Variation’ and ‘Plants and Animals’,  involving lots of exploration outside – fingers-crossed for good weather!

Last but not least,  a date for your diaries: our class assembly is scheduled for Friday 5th July at 9.15am.

As you can see, we have a another busy term ahead but also a very enjoyable one. As in previous terms, we value your continued support with reading, spellings and maths card testing to continue your child’s learning at home. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to come and see either myself or Miss Yaxley and we will do our best to help.

Many Thanks

Mrs Jenny Kerr and Miss Lottie Yaxley
