Welcome back to the Summer Term in Year 4 and I hope you all had a really lovely break over the Easter holidays.
This term we will be starting many exciting new topics and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a bit more information about some of them.
The first literacy unit of the term will focus on persuasive texts, including how persuasive writing is used in adverts. We will also be introducing a new spelling scheme this term which will incorporate some of the areas identified in the new curriculum.
For the remainder of the year, Mrs Woollard will be teaching Year 4 each week on a Thursday morning. Over the course of the term, this will include learning about Information texts in Literacy and also a Science unit called ‘Friction’.
The other Science unit for this term is Solids and Liquids which involves finding out about the different properties of solids and liquids and investigating what happens when they are mixed and separated.
In PE, we will continue with our Indoor Athletics before moving on to striking and fielding games and short tennis.
Our Geography topic for the Summer Term is Rivers, which will enable the children to identify the different features of a river and to know about how rivers impact their surrounding areas.
The ICT unit for the summer term is ‘Developing Communication and Sound’ which allows lots of exciting new learning. During the course of this unit, the children will learn to use their own school email account, as well as learning how to communicate with each other appropriately through the use of blogs and podcasts.
I hope you will be able to join us for our Class Assembly which will take place on Friday 14th June at 9.15am.
I am very much looking forward to what I am sure will be another exciting and productive term!
If you have any questions or concerns at all, please feel free to come and see me. As always, any parents who are able to spare an hour or so each week to help in the classroom would be very much appreciated!
