Skyswood win Play Off- St Albans Champions!

The first football fixture of the season was really an important one, as it was effectively a 6-a-Side Cup Final against Killigrew! Last season the two schools were undefeated in ten 6-a-side matches as they contested the Annual St Albans Schools 6-a-Side Final. The winners of the tournament go forward to represent St Albans in the Hertfordshire finals in Year 6. However, the final remained goal-less after extra-time and the local association quite rightly  refuse to use penalties to decide the outcomes of finals. The Year 5 trophy was effectively shared, but the schools had to play-off this term to decide which school has the honour of representing St Albans. Killigrew and Skyswood both have three excellent District players within their team, it was bound to be a tough challenge. Goals from Daniel and Jack gave Skyswood a two goal advantage, but Killigrew pulled a goal back and only first class defending from Louis and Aaron, and excellent goalkeeping from Max, prevented Killigrew from drawing level. As this was a five-minute each way competition, the schools decided to follow it with a friendly match (Chiswell Green is a long way to go for just ten minutes of football!) The friendly was a wonderfully competed game, finishing 1-1, with George scoring the Skyswood goal. Well done to the team, we are really proud of you!
