Skyswood girls start football season in style!

The Skyswood girls football team must be congratulated on two magnificent performances this week. They were even more impressive when considering that they were their first two games of the season.

On Wednesday the team enjoyed an exciting cup match away against St Adrians. After an even start, St Adrians took the lead. However, it wasn’t long before Daisy scored a great equaliser. Sophie was playing particularly well in midfield and the defensive partnership of Elise and Kristin, and later Theabelle, all played superbly. St Adrians, however, scored a good goal to give them the lead and, despite some excellent play and determination from all of the girls, they just couldn’t quite snatch an equaliser.

On Thursday, the girls enjoyed their first league match. Our home fixture against Bernards Heath was another exciting match right from the kick off. Sophie deservedly put Skyswood into the lead and almost scored a second goal with a stunning shot that hit the crossbar. Daisy, Hannah and Ellie were all making good runs from midfield and Theabelle, Kristin and Elise had great games in defence and midfield. Jessica had impressed when she came on as a substitute against St Adrians, and she had another great game, getting the opportunity to play part of the match in defence and part of the match up front. Skyswood scored a second goal when Hannah made a tremendous run down the left wing and then crossed for Ellie to score with a beautiful shot from six or seven yards out. Ellie almost scored another goal towards the end but the Bernards Heath keeper made an impressive save. Sophie had bundles of energy from start to finish and made some amazing tackles and positive runs. She was well supported by the rest of the team and everybody contributed to a great 2-0 victory. Thank you to Ellie, Hannah, Theabelle and Daisy for each taking a turn in goal in both of our matches, and well done to our excellent eight… Hannah, Daisy, Ellie, Elise, Kristen, Sophie, Theabelle and Jessica!
