Following the announcement from the Prime Minister this evening of another National Lockdown starting tonight, we are very sorry to announce that Skyswood Primary & Nursery School will be closed as from tomorrow for all pupils except vulnerable children and those of critical workers. This is for the safety of all of us until the severity of the spread of Covid-19 is under control.
For the vast majority of children this will mean converting to remote provision until February half term. We found out this evening along with you, so please do bear with us as we get plans into action. All staff will be in school tomorrow and teachers will work hard to ensure that remote learning is available on Google Classroom (or via ParentMail for Nursery pupils) by 9am Wednesday morning.
Mr Bridle is aiming to provide some home learning on the website tomorrow morning to inspire ideas for your use tomorrow while teachers are busy preparing work.
For remote learning, it is now statutory for us as a school to supply new learning which mirrors that which would normally take place at school. For Key Stages 1 & 2, tasks across the curriculum will be uploaded onto Google Classroom on a daily basis; for Early Years, this may be uploaded on a weekly basis. The way that this learning is presented will be up to individual teachers and will vary in style and approach.
All pupils are expected to complete the set work, but we completely understand how difficult this is for parents, especially when you are also trying to work yourselves. Please do contact us at any time if your children are struggling with completing the home learning. Ultimately, the safety and emotional well-being of you and your children is paramount.
Critical Worker & Vulnerable Children
If your child/children are eligible to remain at school during this time, please complete the survey that I sent out earlier today. If possible, please submit it tonight so that we can formulate groups tomorrow and create a rota for staffing.
The children who remain in school will be supported in completing the home learning set for their class. Staffing arrangements will be confirmed, but it is likely that teaching assistants will take a leading role in this, with teachers available to support where necessary.
To allow us time to collate your responses and generate a plan, it would be extremely helpful if you are able to keep your child at home tomorrow. We will send out information during the day tomorrow to let you know further details of groups, location and staffing.
If you have no other option but for your child to be at school tomorrow, then please take them to their own classroom at 8:45am and their class teacher/teaching assistant will be available to welcome them in. We will establish groups once we know what numbers we are working with.
If your child is attending school as part of the Critical Worker/Vulnerable Children group tomorrow, please send them in with their pencil case and water bottle. They do not need to wear school uniform, but please ensure they are wearing trainers and clothing suitable for PE. A school meal will be provided.
Free School Meals
Children entitled to Free School Meals will be catered for throughout Lockdown. We will contact you tomorrow with further details.
Many thanks for all your support. We are here if you have any concerns – please feel free to contact your class teacher or any member of the Senior Leader Team if you have any questions.
