Last week, Years 5 & 6 visited Hazard Alley – the indoor safety centre in Milton Keynes – which helps develop judgement, decision making and risk assessment skills in order to increase self esteem and confidence.
The children had the opportunity to learn about different scenarios such as life saving lessons, safety in the home, on the road, on a building site and near water. They also learnt about fire, personal, internet and rail safety. One of their favourite aspects of the day was placing the ‘999’ call to an operator, where they had to describe the problem and ask for the right emergency service. The DVD of their calls certainly demonstrated some interesting responses! The children were also shown the recovery position and made aware of the consequences of crime and antisocial behaviour.
Both year groups enjoyed the day and benefitted from the real-life scenarios. The staff commented on what an excellent group of children they were. Fun was certainly had all round!
