Skyswood Primary and Woodlands Nursery are delighted to have been named as the Herts Advertiser ‘School of the Year’ earlier this month. We are also very proud that Mr Grant Jones, our Year 5 teacher, was named Teacher of the Year. Both of these awards are very special for the school as there were several excellent nominations in each of the categories. Skyswood has enjoyed a very productive year, with the appointment of Mrs Lockwood as Deputy Headteacher back in January, and the addition of Lisa Caro onto our Senior Leadership Team. We have also been delighted to appoint Mrs Jenny Kerr as our Year 2 teacher as from September. Mrs Kerr has been an outstanding Early Years Practitioner at Skyswood before taking on the GTP course last year. Having successfully completed the course to a very high standard, we welcome Mrs Kerr into our Key Stage 1 team, along with Miss Lottie Yaxley, who will take up the role as Year 2 teaching assistant as from September. The school have also re-organised teaching assistant provision throughout Key Stage 2 and welcome Sarah Illingworth onto our staff. Mrs Helen Casson, who was supporting Key Stage 2 on a temporary contract, will now take up a permanent role as the Year 4 teaching assistant as from September.
Mr Jones’ award was throughly deserved and we are proud that his efforts have been recognised. Our Year 5 class enjoyed an exceptional year with Mr Jones and we also appreciate the wide range of extra-curricular activities that Mr Jones has organised throughout the year. These include football, cricket and lego mindstorms. Mr Jones also organised teams for the tag-rugby and kwik cricket tournaments and was instrumental in helping to put on the successful play, Bugsy Malone, at the end of term. Well done to Mr Jones, and congratulations to all of our staff, children, parents and governors on our School of the Year award, it is our Skyswood team that makes this school truly special!
