Mayor visits Skyswood (twice!)

The Mayor of St Albans, Anthony Rowlands enjoyed two visits to Skyswood in the space of a week. Firstly, the Mayor came to visit us for our Community Afternoon last Sunday. The Mayor’s theme for the year is ‘Partnerships across the Ages’ so our Community Day fitted in perfectly. Many of our children were keen to give their grandparents a tour of the school, and around fifteen guests came along courtesy of St Mary’s Church. It was a wonderful afternoon with a wide range of activities. These included board games, mindfulness colouring, craft activities and table-tennis. We have now established a number of pen-pal partnerships through the church, and with Tara’s Retreat and Parkside View.

The Mayor then came back, fully robed and accompanied by his Officer in Post, on Thursday morning. The whole school formally greeted the Mayor in assembly and were treated to a wonderful overview of the role and history of the Mayor of St Albans. Our nursery and reception classes enjoyed special visits after the assembly and asked thoughtful questions about the role of the Mayor, his robes and his mace.

Sophie and Rose (Year 5) then presented our Mayor with their fabulous design for the Mayor’s Christmas Card (which will be professionally printed and widely distributed around St Albans this Christmas!)
