Our Author of the term is Roald Dahl and there are two fantastic competitions that we are opening to infants and junior aged children. The puppet competition is also open to children from our reception class:
George’s Marvellous Medicine
Create your own spell!
We challenge our children to create their own spell, based on the style of Roald Dahl’s fabulous book, George’s Marvellous Medicine. We have produced a ‘Spell Preparation’ booklet that children may choose to use in order to help them think about the style of their writing. Roald Dahl was a master with rhyme but your spell doesn’t have to rhyme if you don’t want it to.
Here’s an extract from Page 34 of George’s Marvellous Medicine that may give you some inspiration for a spell of your own:
The Cook Up
‘Fiery broth and witch’s brew,
Foamy froth and riches blue,
Fume and spume and spoondrift spray,
Fizzle, swizzle, shout hooray!
Watch it sloshing, swashing, sploshing,
Hear it hissing, squishing, spissing,
Grandma better start to pray!’
Create a Roald Dahl Character Puppet
Fantastic Mr Fox? Willy Wonka? The Enormous Crocodile? Augustus Gloop? The BFG? The Twits? Mrs Trunchball?
Choose your favourite Roald Dahl character and make a puppet. Your puppet could be as simple as a cardboard picture on a lolly stick… Or you might choose to be really ambitious and use a much wider range of materials.
The closing date for autumn term Author of the Term competition entries is Friday 24th November
WINNERS OF EACH COMPETITION WILL RECEIVE A FAMILY TICKET FOR A DAY OUT AT THE ROALD DAHL MUSEUM, GREAT MISSENDEN. ALL CHILDREN WHO ENTER WILL RECEIVE A COMPETITION CERTIFICATE.
