Happy Chinese and Lunar New Year!

Last week, Reception truly got into celebration mode, learning all about the Chinese and Lunar New Year which this year fell on Sunday (22nd January). They learnt all about the customs and traditions associated with the festival, then made a Chinese dragon, lanterns, and even Spring couplets (banners) by trying their hand at Chinese writing! We were really impressed with their concentration and fine motor skills and are thrilled with the end results! Our classroom was totally transformed with all their efforts by the end of the week.

During choosing-to-learn time, some of the children also had a go at making Lucky red envelopes and their own Chinese dragon masks.

We finished the week by turning the classroom into a Chinese restaurant! The children tried egg fried rice, plain chow mein, prawn crackers, sweet and sour chicken balls and vegetable spring rolls. The adventurous few also tried crispy seaweed and some were amazed by how much they liked it!

What a great week of fun, learning and new experiences! Happy New Year everyone!
