Our recent Astronomy Evening for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 was extremely well attended and, despite the cloud, we were able to learn a few things about telescopes, as well as finding out about stars and planets. The evening involved five rotational activities, including an introduction to ‘Stellarium’, which is a free online resource that gives you the opportunity to zoom in around the universe and get a telescopic view of space! We also had an inflatable planetarium set up in the hall and a number of telescopes in our library. Alan Willison (previous Headteacher at Skyswood) led the workshop on telescopes, whilst Professor Marc Sarzi organised a group of students to lead activities such as the Astro Quiz. The evening kicked off with three presentations on what we already know about space and what we hoped to find out during the evening. Congratulations to Oliver, Andrew and Melissa, your presentations were excellent!
