Skyswood’s football team for our match against Bowmansgreen included seven players who were playing their first ever match for the school, but you would never have known by the confident way in which they played together right from the start. Both Sameer and Elliot were impressive up front, controlling the ball well with their first touch and creating some good chances. William, Kyle, Tristan and Misha all played well in midfield, whilst Kai and Bradley (our team captain) were really strong in defence. Kai pushed forward and almost gave Skyswood the lead with a tremendous shot that only just missed the target, Sameer also created some good openings, whilst Tristan and Kyle also came close, before Bowmansgreen took the lead with an excellent shot. They extended their advantage to 2-0 at half-time despite Skyswood having greater possession and playing equally well as a team.
In the second half, Andrew made an outstanding save and Skyswood pressed forward in search of a goal. Bowmansgreen broke away well and scored a third goal with a thunderous shot. Kai came close again with a free kick just outside the box but, despite excellent efforts, the team couldn’t quite get the goal or result that they deserved. It was an excellent performance and Mr Bridle was incredibly proud of the whole team, especially those children who were playing their first match for the school.
