Florence Nightingale Day

On Friday 16th October, Year 2 had their Florence Nightingale Day run by History Off the Page. The children were amazing as always and completed a number of creative workshops and role-play activities. The children took the opportunity to show off their extensive learning and Miss Harvey could not be prouder.

Thank you to all the parent/staff volunteers who helped throughout the day, which would not have been as   special without you!

Activities in the morning included making clay candle holders,, completing application forms using quills, job interviews with Florence Nightingale, as well as decorating pillboxes, Scutari hospital sashes, medals and birthday cards.

The children then matched the correct suitcases to the people who travelled with Florence. The afternoon included role-play at Scutari hospital, with children becoming wounded soldiers, nurses, cooks, laundry, gardeners and newspaper reporters .mAll in all it was a fantastic day, and the school received a wonderful  letter from Sue Langley (History off the Page) saying that she ‘had a wonderful day in your school leading Year 2 in their  Florence Nightingale workshop. As you appreciate I go to hundreds of different primary schools and it is  always a pleasure and delight to come to Skyswood. The children  asked interesting questions and used their inquiry skills  superbly throughout the day.’
