Face Britain: Skyswood children to be beamed over Buckingham Palace

Children and parents should have received a recent letter about the Face Britain project. This ia a fantastic opportunity for our children to become involved in a special project to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee. Face Britain is looking for a million children from all over Britain to submit a self-portrait. Each portrait will become part of a record breaking mosaic of Queen Elizabeth II, which will be beamed onto Buckingham Palace. The children can create their portrait in any medium and style that they like. We will then scan their artwork and upload the portraits onto the special online gallery. The children will be able to see their portrait in the gallery and the special mosaic will form part of the special celebratory events in 2012, including the London Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the Queen’s Jubilee.

The portraits will be used as individual pixels in a much larger montage image of the queen. Face Britain hopes to break the Guinness Book of World Records for ‘most artists working on the same art installation. In order to scan the portraits they should preferably be A4 in size, although we could scan up to A3 if children choose to work on a slightly larger scale. All original artwork will be returned to the children once uploaded.
