We are delighted to hear that our caretaker, Mr Newton, has been shortlisted in the final three places for this year’s Community Champion Mayor’s Award. Phil received a record-breaking 26 nominations from staff, parents and ex-Skyswood parents. We are so appreciative for all that Phil does for our school community. Mr Newton is always there to lend a hand for school or FOSS events, he knows all the children and families so well, and there can’t be many caretakers around who run so many after school clubs for the children. Mr Newton has run ICT Club for several years. He now also runs the hugely successful Lego Mindstorms Club with Mr Jones, and helps out with Cricket Club in the summer term. Phil has saved the school considerable funds through laying the slabs for the chill out zone or helping FOSS to organise the wonderful Lend-a-Hand Days. It’s also quite rare for a caretaker to do a dinner duty (let alone do dinner duties on EVERY day.) This is of course one of the main ways that Phil really gets to know the children. Phil has also accompanied the children on several visits, including residential trips. He also organised this year’s National Quiz teams. Thanks Phil, and good luck with the Award shortlisting!
