Author of the Term

On 28th February (the day before World Book Day) we have organised an author visit with Alexander Martin, author of the Stanley Smartpants novels. Alexander will be reading extracts from his books and involving children in the creative writing process, with the opportunity for our children to present ideas that he could  incorporate into future stories.  The Stanley Smartpants series is a collection of hilarious detective stories with an all cat cast! Stanley Smartpants, the coolest cat detective in Cat-Haven-on-Sea, along with his boss, the not very bright Chief Inspector Derek Dimwit, are quickly on the scene to investigate a range of crimes. These crimes include Stanley Smartpants and the Harbour Mystery, the mystery of the exploding bananas, a scandal involving poisoned parrots and the mystifying mackerel robberies.

For our author of the term competitions we have a writing competition and a front cover competition. The writing competition will be to write a short mystery involving the key characters, Stanley Smartpants and Chief Inspector Dimwit. The front cover competition is to think of an exciting mystery as your title and design a front cover for a new addition to the Stanley Smartpants series. Our top tip is to read one or two of the books beforehand so that you get a real feel for the author’s style. We will ask Alexander Martin to judge the competitions during the visit, and who knows, he may even use your ideas to feature in one of his future novels!
