This term we originally chose two authors (one for infants/reception and one for juniors), but our School Council Author of the Term Committee (Joshua, Nicholas and Rose) felt that both authors would appeal across all key stages, so we’ve given you a choice!
Andy Griffiths is the author of the Thirteen Storey Tree House, illustrated by Terry Denton.
The 13-story treehouse has a bowling alley, a see-through swimming pool, a tank full of man-eating sharks, a secret underground laboratory, a vegetable vaporizer and a marshmallow machine that shoots marshmallows into your mouths when it sees that you are hungry.
The book has been followed up with many sequels, with an ever increasing number of rooms. The latest book, The One Hundred and Forty-Three Storey Tree House, is due out this October.
We have a 2D and a 3D competition challenge for you for Author of the Term. The 2D competition is to create a picture of a room that could be used in one of Terry Griffiths books. The author has some crazy and imaginative ideas for things that you might find in a room, so let your imaginations go wild!
3D Competition– Room in as Shoe Box
Create a ‘room in a shoe box’ that would be great for a Terry Griffiths book. Your room can include whatever you want and be made from any materials you choose. Think about what will go into your room and the materials that you need to make the contents of the room.
Create a picture of a Tree House Room
The 2D picture competition can use any materials that you choose. It could be a collage, it could be a painting. You could use pastels, crayons, gel pens, colouring pencils, or it could just be a pencil sketch. Make your picture as interesting and imaginative as possible.
