Welcome to Year 4 Summer Term!

Our apologies for errors in our original letter sent earlier this week.  Please find below the correct version; we have also sent a revised hard copy home with the children.

21 April 2017

Dear Year 4 Parents/Carers,

We hope that you and your families all enjoyed a fantastic Easter break and that the children are looking forward to a busy summer term.

We will continue our Viking topic for the first part of the Summer term as part of the Invaders and Settlers History unit. Then we will begin a topic called ‘Living Planet’ which will provide children with opportunities to learn about different habitats and climate zones, characteristics of animals that can be found in different habitats and how to classify them, as well as risks posed to the natural environment. This topic will include opportunities for teacher led and independent research with plenty of scope for both individual and collaborative activities.

The children will continue to have their weekly Music lessons with Mrs Constantin on a Thursday afternoon.   We will be doing PE on Mondays and Thursdays, but it is always helpful if children have their kits in school at all times to allow for any changes to the planned timetable. Weather permitting we will be doing lots of outdoor PE so children will need trainers as part of their kit.

As the days (hopefully) warm up, please remember to send children in with a fresh water bottle as well as a hat so that we can take full advantage of outdoor learning opportunities, especially in Science which we link to our Topic and learn about living things in the local environment.

We’d like to thank you for your support with homework throughout the year. Learning Log tasks will continue throughout the Summer term with tasks given out on a Friday for return the following Wednesday. Please encourage your child to record each reading session in their school planner as we’re running the ‘50 night read’ competition again this term and this way all reading at home can be included in their tally.  Some children are also tackling some additional reading practise. Please help them to return these each Friday to Mrs Ullman.

As always, any help in assisting with times table testing and hearing readers would be greatly appreciated. Ideally this would take place first thing (between 9am and 10am) but I do appreciate that people are busy and will be grateful for any offer of assistance.
