Chinese New Year in Reception

Last week, Reception class went all out to celebrate Chinese New Year (5th February) in style! We learnt all about the different customs and traditions associated with the festival: we watched dragon and lion dancing, made our own Chinese lanterns and even had a go at making our own spring couplets. (We didn’t know the children were quite so accomplished in writing in Chinese! See below).

The children had a go at making their own Chinese music in their lesson with Miss Powell and we also found out how each year in the Chinese calendar came to be named after a different animal by listening to the Zodiac Story – 2019 is the Year of the Pig.

We rounded off a great week by tasting Chinese food in the ‘Reception Chinese Restaurant’! On the menu were Chinese noodles (chow mein), chicken balls, spring rolls, egg fried rice, crispy seaweed and prawn crackers. Yum!! Everyone certainly seemed to enjoy themselves as you will see from the photos below. Many thanks again for your donations which enabled this event to take place.
